Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy
ABOUT ME
Oliver Gilbert
Registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist
Master of Psychotherapy (First Class Honours)
BFA Hons, GradDipHealthScience-Psychotherapy
I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy sessions by appointment for children, adolescents and their families.
I have an in-depth understanding of child development, the impact of experience on the developing brain, and the internal world of the child. My therapeutic approach gently encourages the child or adolescent to articulate thoughts and feelings which may be difficult to express in other contexts. In the unique environment of the clinic, these feelings can be explored in depth. Alongside this, my work supports parents, families and carers to gain insight into the meaning behind their child’s behaviour and increase their understanding of the child’s perspective.
I am interim-registered with the Psychotherapists Board of Aotearoa New Zealand (PBANZ) and am a member of the Centre for Lacanian Analysis (CLA), the New Zealand Association of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists (NZACAP), and the NZ Forum of the School of Psychoanalysis of the Forums of the Lacanian Field.
I currently hold a Master of Psychotherapy, with First Class Honours, and a Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies from the Auckland University of Technology (AUT), as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with Honours, from the University of Auckland. I have completed a four-year clinical training in psychoanalysis with the Centre for Lacanian Analysis. My educational training is underpinned by a commitment and passion for working professionally with the concerns of children and adolescents.
I have experience with a diverse range of young people and whānau in both private practice and child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS).
